People that rent out Chigoe Creek Retreat are always asking for local recommendations so here is one of my favorite restaurants, Taste located in North Augusta, SC. Augusta is a border town that is separated from South Carolina by the Savannah River. One minute you are in Georgia and the next minute you can be in South Carolina and experience a whole different city. Taste is located in a very quaint neighborhood situated on the Savannah River with a vibrant town center, walking & biking trails, community gardens and southern inspired design and architecture. Taste has unique cocktails and chef inspired farm to table dinner specials. My favorites are the unique tapas (small plates) such as the wild caught caramelized carolina shrimp with benne-bacon grissiniand. I always enjoy the variety on the cheese & fruit plate or the charcuterie plate and find it perfectly paired with a refreshing glass of their sangria which sitting at one of their outside tables and watching the neighborhood happenings. The handcrafted pizzas are delicious also and come topped with unique ingredients such as smoked pork belly or Artisinal Reypenaer Dutch Gouda cheese. The menu is ever changing and based on what local ingredients the Chef can get his hands on. They also have a great selection of boutique wines and entrees like the slow cooked heritage pork shoulder with Maker’s Mark & Kentucky Sorghum Molasses Glaze, Whipped Yukon Potatoes and Rawl Farms Sweet Braised Collards. The space is intimate and reservations are strongly suggested. Hours: Wednesday through Saturday lunch from 11-3 and dinner from 5 until close.
